Hi guys,

I'm trying to use an Arduino microcontroller in a virtual machine on my Macbook Pro. However, I can't figure out how to "release" the device from OS X in order to be able to use it within VirtualBox. At least I believe that is what the issue is.

Any suggestions?

You don't have to release it, you have to make VirtualBox aware of it. Try clicking the USB icon at the lower right of your virtual machine. You should then see a list of all the USB devices that are attached to your Mac, and be able to emulate the act of plugging one in to the VM by clicking it.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was trying, and when I do that, I always get an error message. I guess it's just some weird behavior. I don't have access to the Arduino at this current time so I can't provide exactly what the error is. It has always worked for other USB devices just fine.

I suppose I'm better off asking in the Virtualbox forums.
