I am a graphic designer and am thinking of upgrading my 2006 1,1 (Yes, it still does the job but barely). My 2012 macbook pro picks up some of the slack. I was thinking of going to a 5,1 12-core for $$ purposes, but is it even worth it? Will I even utilize the 12-core? Any idea of how long I will be able to update it? The Adobe Suite likes to be matched up with the latest OS.

If this is a good path to take, what would the difference be between a 2010 5,1 vs. a 2009 4,1 upgraded to 5,1? Just the 1066mhz ram vs 1333?

What Adobe software (specifically) are you using?
What type of files are you working with generally?
Does the 2012 MBP suit "most" of your needs?
Are you using NVIDIA GPU acceleration on your MBP?
What is your budget?

Depending on the above, a stop-gap solution may something to explore. Basically something to get you through now until new MacPro is announced, or at least until more details are available. Most are hopeful that's around June 2018 for details and December 2018/January 2019 for availability.
