Apple today announced that nonprofit organizations in the United States are now able to accept accept donations using Apple Pay, allowing donors to send money to various charities more quickly.

Many nonprofits like UNICEF, charity:water, American Red Cross, (RED), Save the Children, World Wildlife Fund, and more will begin accepting Apple Pay payments starting this morning, while others will adopt Apple Pay support "over the coming months." A total of 19 charities are supporting Apple Pay as of today.

Charities will be able to accept Apple Pay on their websites using Apple Pay for the web, and donations can also be made through specific charity apps that support Apple Pay.

"We're making it incredibly easy to give back with Apple Pay," said Jennifer Bailey, Apple's vice president of Apple Pay. "Websites and apps tell us they see twice as many people actually completing a purchase with Apple Pay than with other payment methods. We think offering such a simple and secure way to support the incredible work nonprofits do will have a significant impact on the communities they serve."
Many charities are hoping the ability to accept payments over Apple Pay will drive Apple customers to make more donations this holiday season because it makes the donation process both simpler and more secure.
"Apple Pay removes obstacles like forms or concerns about security, allowing donors instead to focus on the impact their gift will make on communities waiting for water." -- Peter Chasse, President & Founder, The Water Project.
As TechCrunch points out, nonprofit organizations could not previously accept Apple Pay because Apple's rules prevented iOS apps from collecting funds for charities or fundraisers using Apple Pay. Charities previously had to collect funds outside of their apps, but will now be able to include built-in donate buttons.

Would be both nice and a good way to drive additional buzz and usage if Apple had a way to forward its fee to the charity as a donation in kind.

It is just a small amount but it sends a good message and will further encourage donors to prefer AP over other payment methods.

(Just don't know if this can work as I don't think Apple gets any information about usage, si may not know where to make the donation.)

Afaik all you need is the latest macOS and iOS10 on an iPhone, you don't need the latest MBP.
After all, that's how Apple showed the feature off at the keynote when there were no new MBPs yet.

A positive story, and MacRumors Forums STILL manages to be negative about it. For the love of God guys, grow up.

Just need someone complaining about how Walmart/Target/some random grocery store doesn't accept Apple Pay and we'll complete the trifecta. :p

Back on topic--is there any listing of all the websites supporting AP yet? Or at least all the charities that are going to be signing on? TechCrunch's article has the following list:

American Red Cross, American Heart Association, charity: water, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, COPD Foundation, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), Doctors without Borders, Feeding America, GlobalGiving, International Rescue Committee, Red, St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Nature Conservancy, Save the Children, The Water Project, UNICEF, United Way, WNET, World Vision, and WWF (World Wildlife Federation).

Just curious, does anyone know if there are fees assessed by using Apple Pay that would get taken out of the total amount the recipient would receive from the donation?

Edit: this actually seems really promising and easy. I guess it would be helpful to know that my entire $20 makes its way to the donation of my choosing, is all.

I don't know the specifics but are there any fees for the merchants/recipients? I recall reading that Apple Pay is just a security layer on top of the regular credit card process, and that Apple charges the banks 0.5% of the transaction. So as a merchant you would continue to pay the same fee that your payment processor charges. Can anyone else speak to this?

0.15% but yes, the fee gets charged to the banks.

What about the cc fees for the charities collecting money via Apple Pay? Doubtful it will be no fee, but perhaps a reduced %.

The interchange rate for Visa and MasterCard is actually higher for charities than certain other merchants, but it takes into account that a: most charities are card not present, b: because there's no tangible item being delivered, it's easier to claim fraud, c: I've heard criminals use those small donations to test cards when committing fraud.

I was diagnosed as Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) carrier after tests were done to investigate my immune system. I had Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) of the Lungs already present. I started treatment with Bronchodilator which Helps open the airways of the lungs to make breathing easier and Steroid which Modifies or simulates hormone effects, often to reduce inflammation or for tissue growth and repair. After a couple of years the virus became resistant and i decided to try a more natural approach to treat the virus, so i started on Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)Herbal formula treatment from HEALTH MED LAB CLINIC, this natural (COPD) treatment totally reversed my condition. I did another blood test after the 2 months treatment and tested negative to the virus. Go to health med lab clinic official email healthmedlab@gmail.com This treatment is a breakthrough for all (COPD) carriers.Their natural herbs are very effective and cure your (COPD) permanently.
