noob is: stuck in emergency mode, help.

so i attempted to update my jailbroken, unlocked 3g in itunes, resulting in my phone stuck in "emergency mode."

The problem is that i'm not sure to what version i was updating to exactly. I am told to try "re-jailbreaking" the phone through redsn0w, or blackra1n.
(which doesn't mean alot to me)
Which steps to take now, i don't know. Thanks for your time.

you need to tell us what firmware you are on then maybe we can help you! if you can't at least do that then it's going to be difficult to help you. you might also want to tell us if unlock is important too you.

unfortunately i don't know which fw i was on before i upgraded in itunes. I have restored in itunes, and i can't access the phone in this emergency mode, i'm trying using a different sim card in my phone just to access the fw. info. I don't think thats going to make a difference.
unlocking is unimportant to me although.

You can unlock the 3G on any firmware. If you upgraded using iTunes, most likely you went to 4.2.1

4.2.1 can be jailbroken but in order to unlock you need to upgrade the baseband to 6.15.00

How do you JB an ipHone in iTunes? I didn't know that iTunes can JB ANY devices.

If redsn0w or blackra1n doesn't mean alot to you then you haven't read/search enough. I don't understand how people don't search and attempt to JB their device. 99% of them end up here crying for help.

If you updated without knowing what FW you are, you most likely updated through itunes, and thus are 99% change on 4.2.1 (most recent fw).

If you doing any other update from 4.0~4.1, you would need shsh blobs, and would most likely remember what fw given all the steps that would be needed to do.

The OP doesn't even need an unlock, so you got the choice of stock 4.2.1 or untethered JB 4.2.1. Unless you have shsh saved, which makes even more options.

Just put your phone into DFU mode, restore to stock 4.2.1 via itunes, JB with redsnow, and you're finished

WTF? If you're not interested in a Jailbreak, just upgrade in iTunes and be on your way.

First off DO NOT upgrade the bb 6.15.00.
Since you're not interested in Jailbreaking or unlocking, you'd be shooting urself in the foot: you'll lose your GPS, and potentially run into battery drain, and push problems.

Just put your phone into DFU mode:

Yep it's synced with my own comp. There isn't anything i need to keep at all, so i don't need the backup.
Once i restore to factory settings my phone is still in emergency mode.

I am on Koodo in canada with a Koodo sim card, so it might be a bit different if you're in the states

Hold on, hold on.. you're not trying to jailbreak the phone, correct? You're just trying to get it working stock right?
