Noob question about sypke video chat

I have an imac and macbook in the house. I installed skype on both of them and wanted to test video chat.

If i send the chat invite from the imac, the macbook can see but i can't see the person sitting at the macbook and vice versa.

How do i do video chat where we can see each other?

Is the MacBook's camera actually on? Is the little light by their camera on?

No it doesn't turn on.

When i use google chat both cameras turn on, there isn't a problem of either.

No idea how to get them both working in skype. Never used skype before so i don't know if this is a problem or if i am overlooking something.
