Any favorite places to go get just normal "phone ringing" type ringtones? all my searches result in ringtones made from actual songs. There has to be quite a few sources for "ring" type tones....so where do you guys get them?

The iphone's stock lineup of rings leaves alot to be desired....:D

try http://audiko.net

lots of free iPhone compatible ringtones there, or you can use the site to easily make your own. you can preview before downloading. be sure to turn on the native audiko search - I find the default google-based search annoying

p.s. lots of "normal" phone rings there, try searching old phone, antique phone, rotary phone etc

Thank you! The included ringtones are crap and making them from songs in itunes just doesn't sound good (not on the rock songs I've used anyway).

Now is there any way to get custom TXT/voicemail alert sounds without jailbreaking??

AWESOME!!

Now, rather than scrounge for onsies and twosies I have a whole collection! I can actually use different rings for different things too now...

Thank you Thank you to all the other choices posted on here as well

can free ringtones be downloaded anywhere?

There are free ringtone applications, my favorite was only a dollar. What you do is record the 30-second ringtone, then it sends the .mp4 attatchment to your email address. Then you can open it in iTunes, then put it on your phone.

Search "Free ringtone" in the application store. Its worth it.

If you want an actual phone ringing noise, then record your home phone ring. :D
