North Face Surge Backpack or Brenthaven?

I am going off to college next year and just bought a Macbook black and was wondering what would be the best laptop backpack to get. I have narrowed it down between these two models. I am mostly looking for the ability to have textbooks and a laptop in it that is very protected. I am also doing a lot of traveling on planes ect.. Thanks for your help!

The Brenthaven. It's massive. I think the North Face backpack in red looks stunning, and it's certainly not a "tiny" bag. It's average size. However, the Brenthaven is going to do the job better, I think.

Do you think the Brenthaven will be too big and bulky though? Do any of you have either of these two backpacks or have heard of anyone who has gotten them?
