Haha, that’s great! So, the older folks don’t have to feel like they’re getting in the way. 😂 Some of them get a bit irritated when we talk about our projects, like coding programs, the rovers I fixed up during my NASA internship, and that music class some used to talk about.
I did mention a lot about the final project for my Java winter break online boot camp, and guess what? People started talking about Fortran and early Macintosh components/repair! It was a fun surprise. I learned something new, though.
Your comments: the "Haha, that's great!" comment followed by "So, the older folks don't have to feel like
they're [presumably meaning the younger people here] getting in the way...." definitely caught my eye. I can see and understand a possible reaction/response of defensiveness, even as a new area for students to discuss their own issues among themselves was being suggested.
I think the reality is here that most of the participants in the "What's On Your Mind" thread are indeed full-fledged grownups, actual chronological adults by dint of birth date positioned somewhere along the wide-ranging age spectrum. As such, the majority in their daily lives have in the past as well as now currently are dealing with all the various life challenges which come along with being a responsible adult, often balancing many balls in the air simultaneously to provide for themselves and usually their loved ones as well.
With that in mind, it is fair to say that most adults have far different concerns from those of (especially young) students if their school experiences were many, many years ago. Why would it be any surprise that adults with adult responsibilities and sometimes quite serious life challenges on their minds might not be interested in the sometimes very detailed descriptions of tools used at school, various assignments and projects, etc., of the younger members of MR?
The "What's On Your Mind?" thread was intended from the very beginning for members to discuss everyday concerns, odds-and-ends of current general interest and to reflect upon specific daily life on their minds This includes from time to time tossing in mentions of and concerns about everyday activities in which they or the world might be engaged -- in short, anything other than focusing on Apple products and computer technology. The "What's On Your Mind?" thread is not, nor ever was meant to be a technology-focused or a school/educational challenges-focused thread.
Macrumors
is a technology site from the get-go. To that end, there are many, many other subforums and threads on MR specifically designed for discussing Apple products and along with that, various technology-specific topics. Lots of places for members to share their enthusiasm and experiences with past, current and future technological advances!
I had noticed that there wasn't really one place for students currently in school to discuss their issues among themselves and this is why I brought up this idea in the first place.
Go for it, students! It's now in your ballpark, this new thread....... We old folks will stay out of your way!
