I've had a new iPad (3) for a couple of months now. Bought it through the Apple store with the "Verizon" setup. But so far I haven't activated the Verizon account on the device and I'm not sure I will. I got the Verizon version mainly as a good thing to have when I eventually resell the unit.
I've got my iPhone 4S with Verizon. It's jailbroken. I've tethered the iPad to the iPhone and it works, albeit slowly.
The new Verizon "share 4G" plan with many devices is a rip.
I wouldn't mind buying a bulk amount of network access for the iPad if it would just sit there until used, no matter how long it took. But the "unused portion" doesn't roll over, month to month.
And probably never will.
