I've figured out finally how to show the music notes in the Characters Palette. But when I do open it to Music Symbols only 20 notes show up. The rest look like this: # only rectangular. Is there any way to fix this?
I have no answer to your question, but I'd be very interested to see which 20 notes you've managed to locate. Which OS are you using, and could you post a screen shot? I have Tiger.
With Character Palette > All Characters > Miscellaneous Symbols I can get 7 note/accidental symbols; with CP > AC > Musical Symbols, there are 6 more, 3 of them duplicates. there's no manuscript or ledger lines on which to place them though.

I can get these notes (CP > AC > Misc Symbols). This is the last two rows.
I can only get these notes ( CP > AC > Music Symbols). When you scroll down it's a bunch of those empty rectangle symbols.
Hi Nicole - thanks for the pics. That's pretty much what I get with Tiger so that answers my question about what difference there might be in the CP of the two different OS. I think the CP music symbols are a token gesture more than a serious notation resource.
Are you doing composition? If so, I'd be interested to see what you do. Do you use Encore? Have you tried Finale Notepad? http://www.finalemusic.com/ I believe it's free, or at least you get a trial with it. No shortage of music symbols there. I've certainly used it, also AppleWorks, which does a good job.
