I had installed Boot Camp but it is now deleted but it seems the system has left the empty void as the first boot device so now when it turns on if I don't hold the option key I get a black screen telling me there is no bootable device.

How do I fix?

If I understand this correctly, you are saying you can still boot into OS X by manually holding down the option key, in which case you should be able go into System Preferences and click on Startup Disk to set your OS X volume as the default startup disk.
