I have a solar panel that produces 10W. It charges my phone in about 3 hours. It doesn't charge the Macbook at all. Why? I imagined it would charge it slowly.

Many devices require a specific minimum current to charge at all. A 10W panel will output 10W under ideal conditions and conditions are seldom ideal. And a panels output is highly variable with variations in light.

So you would be better off charging a USB battery pack with the panel and the device off the battery.

Something like a Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus or Sherpa50 are representative of that implementation (although their battery pack USB output may still not be enough to charge a rMB). I'm sure eventually items like this will have a USB-C option but that could be years away.
