"Not Charging" - even tho plugged in

woke up this morning and opened the mba. didn't have much juice left so i plugged it in.

now showing "(Not Charging)" where it should indicate time remaining till full charge.

i read the apple doc on resetting the SMC, tried it and still didn't work.

please help! it won't charge at all and will instantly shut down when the power adapter is taken off.

edit: fwiw, istat shows battery health 0%; cycles: 8; charge nan%;
