I can't update my iPad because I don't have enough space. I was told that if I hook up my iPad to my computer with iTunes that I would have enough space and could update. When I try to do that my computer or iTunes keeps wanting to know if I want to restore my iPad as new or from back up. I don't want to do either.
So is there a way to update my iPad to iOS 8 without deleting things?

As the previous member stated, restore from backup.

Make sure to back up your device each time, before doing updates. That way, if anything ever goes wrong, you can be back up and running in a matter of moments.

Just back up and then update. You won't need to restore since you are updating, not restoring.
