not getting 5.1 out of Firewave

I recently got my Firewave and I installed it like it says inside the case but it seems im not getting 5.1 sound.. when I goto the "Audio Midi Setup" and goto multichannel and test the speakers they all come up fine but when i play a song through itunes or watch a movie in iDVD its still 2.1 anythin im doin wrong?

Is both the content and the playing software 5.1?

The Firewave won't turn stereo source material into 5.1...

how do i know if its 5.1 or not? And if the firewave doesnt turn everythin into 5.1 so i can play it thru all my speakers what does?

All your source material will most likely be in stereo. You can double check by opening it into quicktime >> window >> show movie info

The firewave can however use Dolby Prologic II.
