not getting notifications on locked iPhone screen

I have an iPhone and an apple watch.
When my apple watch is on my wrist or when I have it set to "mirror iPhone alerts" for apps, I do not receive notification alerts on the locked screen of my iPhone and nothing on my apple watch. If I go to apple watch settings and turn off "mirror iPhone alerts" for apps then I can receive app notifications on the locked screen of my iPhone BUT no sound alert. I am a teacher and it is really helpful for me to receive notifications from these school related apps both on my iPhone with the locked screen but also especially on my apple watch. I have already, restarted my iPhone, I have deleted apps and then uploaded them again, restarted my apple watch, checked to make sure it is not on mute, "do not disturb" is OFF, the notification settings are all set for alerts and to show on lock screen, I even un paired and then paired again my apple watch with my iPhone. I would really appreciate any help.

I am having the same problem. Tried everything that I know, w/o success. I do get a silent notice on my iWatch and then check my phone to confirm that I got a message, which I did. Seems to me that I should get a audio notification on my phone, if I have notification turned on. Any help would be appreciated as it has me stumped. I'm sure I am doing something wrong in my setup in either my phone and my watch, or both?
