I went ahead risking my warranty and applied arctic silver 5 on my Revb 1.86 Air a few days ago & I'm sure not getting any cooler results on the cpu or gpu. I thoroughly followed the fabulous instructions NCmacguy made on this forum.
Cleaned original paste off with alcohol and qtips, applied 1/2 a rice grain spread evenly on, screwed the heatsink firmly to the processors but I'm still getting hulu hd clips at ~70c with fans kicking in at 6200rpm. Idle temps range from 41-46C and regular web browsing w/ 3-4 tabs at 54-58C. I get the same results when compared to another revb air with Apple's blob of paste.
I ask for some advice to other AC5 users on what might be wrong with my procedure. Should I notice the drops immediately or do I wait for the break-in? Are the accurate readings from coolbook or smccontrol?
