I recently received a free iPhone 16e from T-Moble to sign up with them. I had a 3 year old compact SE iPhone that was nicely fit and worked better. The main problem I'm having are with the apps on the new iPhone... They were all transferred from my old phone..and they don't give me any sound when sending me notifications. this even includes when receiving emails sometimes. And I even re-installed a lot of those apps on the new iPhone... When I do hear a sound from the apps it is very low and not as loud as my SE phone. All my settings are correct for each app...notifications are all on, focus is off... phone silence is off... etc... I really want them to re-activate my older iPhone SE because im very fed up with the 16e. Everything else works fine except for that issue. Please advise... thanks...

I just bought and transferred all my content from an SE2 to a 16e. The SE2 was much too small to be practical and functional for me. The 16e has the display real estate exactly as need, and everything functions perfectly.

I just tested my ringtone (and many others) and mail notification sounds and they're loud enough. But the volumes need to be notched up a bit to the higher side on the scale. Otherwise I hear them fine. Are you sure you checked and tested all these sounds in settings? Or is it just your apps? Could it be your case (try removing it).

Yes, I checked the ringtone and other sounds that come with the iPhone and they work fine... but its just with the apps sending notification sounds... Never thought about removing the case, but every iPhone should have a protective case.... thanks.

Check Volume Limit in settings (if it applies to your apps), and make sure it's not set too low (if at all).
Thanks... I totally shut it off... It was on... I will see if that's it... Since it was in the on position, that tells me it softens the notification sounds.... I hope...

In Sounds & Haptics, I turn off "Change with Buttons" and use the slider above it to set a fixed volume for ringtone and alerts. That ensures that my alert volume is not affected by the volume I was last using for music or a phone call.

I just switched it to the on position. It was set to off...the volume button above that is up 100%. Hopefully that was it? thanks.

I prefer to keep it off and set a fixed volume on the slider. If you set it to on, then the volume for everything on the phone will be tied to the buttons and will change all together, so keep that in mind. Years ago, I missed an alarm because the volume was too low, so separating alerts from the buttons was my solution.

Ok thanks. How low or high do you set the manual volume on the slider?

Backup the old iPhone and restore it. Something has obviously happened during transfer. Either that or set it up as a new device to test if it's the software or the device.

I keep mine in the center. If the button below is off, it will play your ringtone while you set your preferred volume.

Ok Thanks.... I will have to bring it to the Apple Store to do that.... That is possible.

Ok, I will try that... thank you for your help on this matter... Well appreciated. !!
Just keep in mind that the volume buttons will only control speaker/headphone volume, and you'll need to go back to that screen to adjust the ringtone volume in the future.

Also check the setting @Richard8655 said. On that same screen, scroll down to Volume Limit. Mine is always off, but it's possible yours could be on with a limit set.

@Donnie Boston Was your previous phone on iOS 18? I had this issue when I installed the update to iOS 18 last fall. The default app notification sound was changed, and the tone Apple used was below my threshold for hearing with my hearing loss. There was a lot of feedback given by user communities and Apple released an update with ability to set your own default tone for app notifications that you can hear samples of as you set.

I believe my last phone was from 2016, but I bought it in 2022 for $500. Not a cheap phone, but everything worked great and it was compact size that fit right in my pocket... I'm going to make a Genie appointment with apple for tomorrow or this weekend, and bring my old phone to see if they can switch it back if they can't do nothing... Thanks for the info.... I will let them know of such an update.... thanks for the info

I turned the volume level limit to off, but the bar is all the ways up to 100%... don't know if I should lower it? Thanks.

I turned off my volume limit, because I don't want my volume limited I guess since I can barely hear the notification sound when they do work.... thanks

Perhaps you could try choosing a different sound for the notifications you can't hear well. Each of them can be set individually by app. Regarding the volume level bar on the sound settings screen, use whatever you can hear that is not too loud.

And keep in mind that since you got this phone from your carrier, you could visit them for assistance if you can't figure this out.

Tip: next time rename your post to reflect your issue. Something like: 'Trouble with notifications on new iPhone, plz advice'
Next tip: just call Apple. They have an excellent helpdesk.

Yep. The user appears to like the 16e however came across a fixable issue which was caused by user ignorance. A quick search on Google or a question to ChatGPT would’ve rectified the issue.

The issue actually had nothing to do with the 16e and would’ve been present on any device on iOS 18, lol.

I had an appointment at the Apple Store, and they seemed to fixed the problem. It was actually a software issue with the iphone when it was originally transferred from my old SE iPhone. Still testing, but so far now working fine.
