Why isn't Apple lowering its hardware prices due to the economic crisis we are facing?

This is one of the most ridiculous questions I've seen asked here several times, but this one has an extra ounce of special in it. It's posted to the Mac Pro forum. Why on earth would you post this in a forum dedicated to high end computers aimed at professionals?

peskaa...why the heck not

-Ryan-...no specific reason, its just that im a pro and im interested in the MPro line, i couldnt think of a better area to ask, why do u think its ridiculous?

The more appropriate question's probably why the heck would they?

They're pretty financially secure as a company and I'm guessing they must be happy with their sales figures. Apple very rarely lowers the prices on its computers anyway.

All things considered, the economy isn't really affecting Apple's sales. Mac sales are down 3%. I'd imagine they'd have to go down a lot more before Apple started thinking of price cuts.

The quote below is from about three weeks ago:
“We are extremely pleased to report the best non-holiday quarter revenue and earnings in our history,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Apple’s financial condition remains very robust, with almost $29 billion in cash and marketable securities on our balance sheet. Looking ahead to the third fiscal quarter of 2009, we expect revenue in the range of about $7.7 billion to $7.9 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share in the range of about $.95 to $1.00.”

Because Mac Pro people are elitist and like our computers expensive & stylish. The poorer the rest of the population is that cannot afford our expensive toys... the better we feel.

I wouldn't call you a racist if you closed your post with a smiley!

Because people will still buy Macs? Its only been recently that Macs were "cheap" - I remember paying more than the current Mac Pros cost for my PowerMac G5.
