And not have everything merged and synced, is it?

I'm trying to help someone out that has his and his wife's contacts calendars and so on merged and synced on both their phones.

He's been using the same iCloud account on both phones with back up.

He wants to separate them. I told him just to delete iCloud from his wife's phone and for her to create a new ID.

Everything should now be separate but they can still share the same ID on the App Store.

Now someone comes along and says he and his wife share the same iCloud account and nothing is merged and he has backup set to on.

I can't see how that's possible.

My wife and I share iCloud, but she has hers backup her own settings and I backup mine. Te key difference is that we use google for syncing calendars and contacts and mail. I'm wondering if the person you talked to is doing something similar.

Ok another question.

This guy I'm trying to help.

He deleted the old iCloud account off his phone. Created a new Apple ID and iCloud account.

When he turned on contacts he got back all of his wife's contacts.

He told me he has an email account on his phone that was used to create his wife's iCloud.

He used a new email address to create his iCloud.
