I just upgraded to iPhone 6plus from a 5s and did a restore. The 6plus is running ios 8.1. I'm not receving any notifications from any apps, weather, cnn, ap, etc. When I check in setting they are all individually set to on. Is there something esle I need to do to get overall notifications turned on? Email and messages seems to work fine.

Try resetting all settings. I know its a pain but it fixes things like this.
For what its worth my 6+ works fine on notifications but I set it up as NEW and did not restore from backup.
