Not seeing external harddrive on wireless network

I'm using an old G4 laptop (Tiger) that I have networked so I can print wirelessly to it from my MacBook Pro (Leopard) and watch some streaming movies from the harddrive. I thought I'd be savvy and try hooking up my external hardrive to the G4 (by USB) but when I go to server connection on my MacBook Pro and look at the harddrive and desktop folders (of the G4) I don't see it listed anywhere. Is there something I'm missing, or am I not going to right areas.

Did you share the drive?

You need to share the drive. By default, OS X does not share anything other than the home directory, and only if its setup to share that.
