Not sure what to buy!

Hello I am trying to decide whether it is worth it for me to purchase an iPad!
Here is what I currently have:
iPhone 4S – Small crack on lower right corner
2010 13" MacBook Pro – Core 2 Duo, VERY slow

Notes to consider
• I have ~$1200 saved up so far
• For my high school graduation, I will get about $2000 and will be purchasing a 15" rMBP
• Next year, I will spend $300 on a 32GB iPhone 5S/6

My question is... Should I get an iPad? "Mini" or "Retina"? LTE or WiFi?
I would mostly use it for:
• Taking notes in school (I take probably 8-12 notes a week on my MBP
• Long car rides to relatives homes (about 45 minutes)

Regardless of damage to your phone, I say the iPad sounds good for you.

If the iPad is meant for taking notes for school use... then the full-sized Retina iPad is probably your best bet.

I doubt the iPad Mini is really all that good at taking notes with the smaller screen space. And really, you're not saving that much if you went with the Mini.
