Not synching contacts from iCloud

I just made a clean installation of El capitan and although I have setup my iCloud account the contacts from iCloud do not sync to my mac.

I can see that the contacts are on iCloud from the web browser, and all other devices sync flawlessly (ipad, iPhone, iMac). Have tried restarting, disabling and re-enabling the contacts from iCloud setup but still nothing.

A very strange thing is that when I make a change to a contact or add a new one from another device then only this contact syncs with El Capitan.

This drives me crazy, any ideas? Thanks
