Not uploading to iCloud

I have manually added files and folders to the iCloud drive on my Imac, but they don't show up at iCloud.com or my other devices. Also, when I create a new file on my desktop, it doesn't show up on my Macbook's desktop and vice versa. However new content added to iCloud drive/desktop on my macbook does show up at iCloud.com

So apparently my iMac is disconnected from iCloud although i am logged on. Any solutions?
