Note 8 gaming performance

  1. I posted this up on another forum as well as I'm looking for all the input I can before making a final decision.had my note 8 for a few days now and I really love almost everything about it coming from my old 6s plus. My one main concern left that I'm trying to figure out how to improve is the gaming performance..

  2. I travel a lot for work, away from home for a day or two at a time, so I've really gotten into mobile gaming, particularly modern combat 5. First thing I noticed playing that game on the note 8 is it's clear the frame rate is not nearly as high as compared to my 6s plus, or bogs down more in intense scenes as well. I turn on gaming mode and have the screen res down to 1080p, I have the fps limit set to 60, it's just not as fluid

    I've had iPhones mostly over the years so my main experience for gaming is definitely been on my iPhone, I have a few basic android tablets that can't run much.

    Is this normal for Android compared to iPhone? Are the games just not able to be optimized quite as well because it's such an open platform?

    I want to love this phone and want to keep it, but I do spent a good chunk of time on my phone's for gaming while I'm stuck up in a hotel for half my life lol

If you use the phone for games and the note isn't cutting it for you send it back..why spend $800 on a phone just to give Apple a piece of your mind?

IPhones for years have been optimized for gaming performance. Snapdragon phones have seen gaming as an after thought. If gaming is one of the main reasons why you buy a new phone then it's on you for not doing your research. I have a Note 8 and not a single game installed. I have a gaming pc, a New 3ds XL and several legacy consoles. If I want to play a game I'm not settling on weak imitations. But I made a conscientious decision. You should have done the same.

Can't pack up a bunch of gaming systems with me to take to work, and all the reviews I have read and never stayed the note 8 was a slouch in gaming by any means. So I'm not exactly sure where my research fel short in that sense. Never watched a video review or read one that said the note 8 wasn't a good gaming phone

I have 3 young kids at home and a full time career that takes me away from home a lot, so I don't use gaming systems at home because I take that time to spend with my family. So I was hoping to find a more powerful device for overall usage that could still game well

Show me a review that says the note 8 isn't good for gaming

Several have said that no smartphone is as good for gaming as iPhones are. That's been one of their main selling points since the 3gs. The Note 8 is good for gaming. Just not add good as the iPhone. You are conflating a lesser experience between a specific device as an inferior experience as a whole. The Note 8 might actually be a better device for emulation. Like I said, do your research before spending so much on a product. I don't even game on phones and I've seen several videos showing the capabilities of Android phones and iPhones. I'm not doing good work for you. You're a grown man. If you have the time to post on a forum, you have the time to look up gaming performance videos on YouTube. The Note 8 is a damn good phone that you're making look bad because of your lack of forethought.

Just out of curiosity, what resolution is your screen set to?

Sounds more to me you're getting a stick up your ass because I had a complaint about this phone

And no, playing modern combat on this phone gives it a jello effect when looking around, even when turning down the resolution scaling in game and setting the phone itself to 1080p on gaming mode.

I don't expect this phone to go toe to toe with an iPhone 8, but yea I expected it to play a 4 year old game fine.

So keep the petty comments to yourself, I did my research, lots of it and my research came up that this phone with a good gaming phone outside of iOS, but clearly on more graphic intense games its still lagging

It sucks, I love the phone, I prefer ordered it just like I did my note 7 but didn't get much time and experience with the note 7 obviously. And because I like this phone I was looking for suggestions or something I may have missed to up the gaming performance

I set it to gaming mode which drops the resolution to 1080p before I do gaming. I leave it at QHD+ when note gaming

I had a look at the comments on the play store.

Very few complain about in game video performance. I would find it hard to think that gameplay is poor on a new samsung regardless. Perhaps you have power saving mode on or something or just need to redownload it.

That said, the Note is pushing an awful lot more screen and pixels than a last genetation iphone, however samsungs game tools is great so this should resolve your issues.

You dont have run of the mill SD card in it by any chance? Are you running the game from internal or sd card?
 
If you want the best gaming outside of an iPhone, I would suggest looking at the Pixel when it comes out. I have found that most games have been optimized for stock Android, so they will perform better there.

I'm more irritated that you didn't research an expensive phone properly and instead want others to do it for you after the fact. I not a Samsung fanboy in the least. In fact I would have gotten a V30 if not for the S Pen. Like I said, learn how to be an adult and do your research before hand.

Just running game in the internal storage, no power saving, looked over all the options I could, I just had hoped I missed something but gusss not

Like I said, get the stick out of your ass or move on. Telling me to be an adult when you come on here to act like this? Step and take a look at yourself before coming here knockin

I came here to ask if there was any suggestions to improve this, between both forums I’ve learned that’s as good as it gets. That’s fine, overall it was a great phone but I know that’s a big negative for me.
 
Probably just the one game that's badly written. Another thing to try is see what version of MC5 is installed and, for example, if it's 2.7.2a which some have mentioned introduced lag then try side loading 2.7.1a or older from ApkMirror. Make sure your progress is saved on Google Play Games or uninstall the app without clearing data before reinstalling older version.

My issue is that he didn't measure much of an attempt to do any research prior to his purchase. On top of that he asks for videos showing the performance of the phone when I would have to look them up the same as him. The first point is what really irritated me though. I don't understand how people buy phones on a whim then are surprised when things don't work out for them.

Well fair enough if it bugs you, but we all do things differently.
You do have the option of saying your piece and moving on, these threads get quite heated at times, if someone asks for help, they generally get help if people can help.
There a good pool of people here with Note 8's.
Regardless of how Unlimited chose to choose his/her phone, asking questions is encouraged here as far as I'm aware.

Anyway, I'm not the boss of you, carry on how you like but I thought you were out of line re: the asking for help on forums.

No biggie.

And once again it was stated multiple times that I did research and watched dozens of videos and read countless reviews, all reviews came back saying it was a great performer in games. I challenged you to provide me with a review that said this phone was not a good gaming device after countless accusations that I just blindly bought this phone. One of which you did NOT provide, I can prove LOTS of reviews saying this phones gaming performance was great, and obviously my expectations were not in line with what that meant.

I came here to asks for suggestions from people with more experience on android than myself, I stated what I had tried and asked if there was anything else I was missing

It’s the exact point of having forums, so instead of coming on here to be an ass and try to lecture me over what YOU feel I didn’t do correctly, why don’t you back out of this thread and carry on being a loudmouth teen to someone else. Because all you have been so far in here is disrespectful

Note 8 was returned, thread can die off

The Note 8 should be able to do mobile gaming ffs. MC5 doesnt require a cray supercomputer to run. Its a game made for mid tier phones and upwards.

Cant say ive ever noticed myself but do iphones run games this much better?
