I'm trying to put notes on my iPod, but for every note I have on it there is a bunch of text that appears to be code surrounding what I have typed. For example,

{/rtf1/ansi/ansicpg1252/cocoartf949/cocoasubrtf540

and for about four more lines it has similar text about the font I've used, the color of the font, etc. Then around everything that I've typed is a slash for every break. For example,

/Artwork (Min. 15 pieces) and sketchbook. Send digitally./
/
Statement of Purpose (Essay about why you want to attend KCAI)./
/
Current high school transcript./
/
FINAL high school transcript./

How can I get rid of that garbled text?

That looks like RTF (rich text format). Try saving your documents as just plain text (.txt). It will remove the formatting (bold etc) but you will be able to view the note.

(I believe it is able to read limited HTML though?)
