Notes Plus - Review (my new favorite notewriting app)

Not affiliated with the developer or anything like that but I wanted to share my experience with Notes Plus. What an APP!! I thought I would post what I have written along with offer a couple screens of the app and its capabilites. I know I would have appreciated this in my search for a good note writing app. Sorry if you can't read my writing, but you can see that this app is good for real world application!


I think the things that set this app apart from others is that you can move the zoombox around up and down the screen, modify it's size etc. I also love the dual screen mode so you can have pdfs and other documents and websites up in one panel to reference while you take notes on it on the other panel.

Anyone else using this App?

eh..like most people who are use their iPad for heavy note taking, I have tried most of the popular notetaking apps(Notetaker HD, Goodnotes, Noteshelf, Ghostwriter, Capture notes, Notability, Goodreader, penultimate etc etc.

I alternate between Notetaker HD, Notes Plus and Notability for serious note taking. Notes Plus has some nice features like the built in browser and handwriting recognition that I need to use at times.
(Being able to access this http://webdemo.visionobjects.com/equation.html using the built in browser is pretty awesome!)

I do however..find the zoom box in Notes Plus annoyingly tedious to use compared to the one in Notetaker HD. Notetaker HD provides better file management too as well as an easier way to change the cavas size to A4 etc. I think the only way you can change the canvas size on Notes Plus to A4 is by manually editing the dimensions.

When I need to get some typing done, I turn to Notability which is a better word processor with plenty of formatting options.

I've tried several apps but primarily use Notability and 7NotesHD (written about them, as well as Notes Plus, here and here).

IMO, Notes Plus is nice in many ways, but the deal breaker for me was that there's no word by word conversion from hand writing to text. I need to edit as I go along. I also don't like not being able to select away the pages format, I much prefer the set up of Notability where you are allowed to continue writing on a continuous page (which still indicates page breaks). In contrast to the previous poster, I really like the zoom box on Notes Plus, though.

But most of this stuff comes down to personal preference, so whatever floats your boat.

Yes it comes down to personal preference. I really like the zoom box on Notes Plus since i can have it higher up on my screen compared to other apps and it smartly allows me to rest my palm/wrist on the space below it so I can write like i am taking notes on regular paper.

Besides that, just curious about what you mean about word by word conversion from handwriting to text? Is there an application out there that does that yet?

Very good review. I have not used the two other apps you mentioned but knowing the additional functionality that Notes Plus offers, makes it a nice that it does many different things to prevent the need for multiple apps. I'll have to look into those word by word converters more, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I'm alternating between Notes Plus and uPad for note taking. I really loved Noteshelf for a while (great UI), but the lines are so short on the pages and I got sick of it.

Notes Plus is not bad, and the convert-to-text is fairly accurate, but it's tedious having to select the entire page before converting, which is a bit buggy, and the bookshelf UI is horrendous. I will probably stay away until it can convert a whole page without having to lasso it all first. I had hopes for a long time that they would change their shelf UI, but I don't think it will ever happen at this point. Honestly, it's disgusting.

Notes Plus for wifey to convert text but the app itself doesn't work for me as it is a bit buggy and not as easily flowing as others and the UI isn't the best for me but it does have some nice features... so its really a preference thing at the end of the day. For speed, quickness and usability I use Notshelf.

Also have to agree with Luis2004 on some of the things said.

If penultimate had a zoom feature, oh my my, that would be an awesome app as it writes so sweet.
