Notes will not create a new note

Hey guys, I use Notes on both my iPhone and in Mail on my iBook G4. The problem is that, when I'm on my iBook G4 and in Mail, Mail will not create a new note when I press the icon on the toolbar. Does anyone know why or, if it is creating a new note, where I can find it? I've tried minimizing various windows, but can't find the new blank note. Thanks.
