Nothing happening when clicking on icons upon Startup

Hi all,

From time to time when I start up my MBP I go to click on whatever program to launch it and nothing happens. This goes for both the track pad and my bluetooth mouse. This happened when I was running Snow Leopard and now with Lion. I then do a hard restart and everything is fine. Of course this all starts to happen after the 14 day return period lol. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Is the Finder running properly? Can you open windows and navigate? Does the system work otherwise?

The 14-day return period isn't a big deal. You do have a warranty.
