hey all!

receiving my new 27" imac in the next few days and looking to do the ssd upgrade! =)

i have had my eye on the vertex 3 the past few days, but reading some reviews, i wonder if the vertex 3 is even worth it (speed wise) when its JUST being used for OS + apps.

also, as the vertex 3 60gb is slower than the 120gb (due to nand size?) would i just be better off with a SATA II ssd?

so in summary, JUST the OS+apps would i notice a difference in speed between a sata II ssd compared to a sata III ssd? :)

Many thanks

You won't notice any real difference. Go with SATA 3Gb/s so you can get a reliable drive (e.g. Samsung 470 Series).

As per Hellhammer, you won't notice any real world difference.

Tomshardware states the following: A typical SSD is 85% than a HDD in typical use. A "fast" SSD is 88% faster than a HDD.

ok thanks guys!

yea, the Sata II ones are much cheaper! havent read up about the samsung drives, will take a look!

many thanks!
