While fighting sudden weirdness with the Calendar app I discovered that the Notification Center isn’t showing recent notifications, or any notifications for that matter (I'm running 10.11.6). I know that there’s a lot of complex interplay between the Calendar and Reminders app and the Notifications settings in System Preferences, and probably the phase of the moon as well, but I’m not seeing anything in any of those that would lead me to expect that no notifications will be retained. I’ve gone through a reboot with no change to the situation. The Calendar app weirdness turned out to be due to my enabling Family Sharing for iTunes media sharing, <sarcasm>something that I should have known would cause problems with Calendar </sarcasm>. I don’t know if that might have also caused this problem in the Notifications Center as I hardly ever look at it, on my Mac and on my mobile devices.

My simple test case is to put an event with an alert in the Calendar and see what happens after it has triggered. The Calendar settings for the Notification Center are to show alerts (not banners) and to keep 5 recent items in the center. Any ideas as to what might be going on, or what else I might look at?
