notification center

I was wondering how long do notifications stay in the notification center if you don't close them out by clicking X? Do they eventually fall off? I tried looking online but didn't find any information.

On OS X you can set how many you want to stay in NC per application. On iOS, I think there is a hard limit, but I'm not sure what that is. You used to be able to set a limit, but not anymore. The old max was 10 by the way.
