For those not on an iPhone the link is http://www.appleinsider.com/article...d_white_fifth_gen_ipod_touch_part_emerge.html

I don't know if I understand the question. You are wondering what those parts could be for?

If that is the question I am going to guess iPhone 5 or iPod Touch (5th Gen).

Could also be a microphone port. Or maybe even a second front camera for 3-D video recording capability? I could just be getting ahead of myself but the A5 could easily handle 3-D capture/playback.

Definitely NOT the iPhone 5 - there's no speaker.

The OP's question was whether or not this is proof that there will be a notification light on the next generation iPhone since there appears to be one on this possible next generation iPod. I can't really think of anything else that the black dot in the picture could be.

no, im wondering if that black dot on the side is the new possible notification light? I know its not a prox sensor or a flash..so im curious. as i said, i dont have a ipod touch

The current iPod touch has a sensor in the same spot, but because of the black frame, its hard to notice.

I have a 4th Generation iPod touch and when I put it under direct light (using a flashlight works also), you can see the black dot.

Its an Ambient light sensor.
