Notifications being cut off

Lately my phone has been going through phases were any notifications (mostly texts or facebook messages) would be cut off where the message would be like "Hey, blah blah blah hey I like cheese" but on the notification all I would see is "Hey, blah blah blah ..." Is this normal and am I going paranoid or did I break something?
