Notifications disapearing?

I have my notifications set to show the last 10. I see when I get a notification. But it usually disappears when I pull down to check notifications. Both ALL and MISSED are usually empty or have one or two from a few days ago.

Is there some setting I'm missing?

Along with this thread, How can i get my iphone to show me notifications for email (like it shows me for text or missed call)?

Go to settings, notifications and set your preferences in Mail.

I haven't really been checking my notifications until recently.

It wasn't until the WWDC iOS8 widgets announcement that I really looked into it.

They're definitely messed up though. Currently in my "all" list there is 1 notification from 5 days ago. I've gotten several notification pop ups today. But none of them are in the NC pull down.
