Notifications for forum?

I see more and more sites who use the notifications system through Safari now, and personally I really like it. Basically you don't need to subscribe to the threads by mail anymore.

Now there's another site I'm frequently on that uses this thing, and I have to say, I love it.
MacRumors has it too, but only for the news apparently. While that's a cool thing as well, I was wondering if there was a way to turn it on for the forum?
Or will the web masters put such a thing in place?

With Yosemite coming out with widgets in the notification area could it finally be time someone wrote a little app for a MR widget ?
