Notifications in Nightstand mode?

How can I get notifications in nightstand mode ? For example, it would be nice to know if someone is calling me.

I tried turning off passcode and wrist detection - not getting any notifications of any kind while its charging in nightstand mode.

I usually have phone charging overnight in office downstairs, and then watch charging on nightstand in bedroom.

You can't get notifications or use the Watch in any way (other than tell the time) when it is not secured on your wrist. Why not just charge your iPhone with your Watch and then the problem is solved.

Nightstand mode should allow at least one complication and have a dim, always-on option. It's hard to make this your sole nightstand clock if you have to make it come on yourself.
