My mom has an iPhone 14 pro and a series 7 watch. For some reason the phone doesn’t audibly report an incoming message from either iMessage or Signal. Notifications are turned on and there is no focus active. The watch vibrates upon reception of a message but the phone, except for some rare occasions, only shows the message on the lock screen. What’s causing the phone to remain silent?

when Watch connected it will only announce notification on the Watch.

If you have the phone unlocked and interacting with it, it will make notification sound vibrate on the phone and not the watch.

Apple decided that having two notification sounds would be user antagonistic. Only one place has sounds/vibration.

I would find it annoying anyways.

Thank you, makes sense. I guess there is no way to make the phone make a sound instead of the watch…

Maaaybe you can try to turn off notification on the watch for the apps you prefer to ring on the phone?
