Why do both MacOS HS and iOS 11 have an issues with audio notifications?

WhatsApp gives me audio notifications in MacOS 10.13 (17A405) even though I have turned these off in preferences. Even with DND on!

Messages gives me audio notifications on my iPhone even on mute.

These are quite annoying glitches to get through the beta process.
