Notifications....mountain lion

hi,

on the first day i had mountain lion, my notifications were set to receive mail wit an alert and the message popped up on the top right of the screen. I tried to switch to banners (to see it temporarily) but that didnt work. I then switched back to alerts and now they don't work

Please help

also, for calendar, i have badges set to on, and i have 2 events today and no badges...
please help
