Notifications not clearing on watch after reading on phone

I recently switched to a new iphone (7 32gb to 7 256GB) and restored my apple watch after pairing with my new phone. Previously, when I read a notification on my phone, it disappeared from my watch (i.e if I swiped down on my watch, the notification wasn't there).

Now, if I read a message on my phone, the notification remains on the watch. So if I receive 10 texts and read them all on my phone, my watch is still showing 10 notifications/previews when I swipe down.

Have tried googling but all I get is results on how to clear all.

Can anyone help get it back to how it was?

I am having this same problem, but I also get (very) delayed notifications on my wrist. I will read and reply to a message on my mac, and five seconds later the original message will show up on my watch. I had no problems before iOS 11. A reboot on watch, phone, and mac didn't fix my problem.
