On my Apple Watch 4 using the previous watchOS every time I received a new message, email, phone call, etc... the screen would actively show that specific notification. Now with the new Apple Watch running the new watch OS all I get is a little vibration when I get a new message, email, phone call, etc... but the watch screen continues on the watch face. I have all Notifications enabled on the watch but not sure what is missing. Is this a new feature? Any way to get the notifications to actively show on the watch screen?

Suggest check this first, there is quite a bit to unpack:
Thank you. I still don’t know how to fix it. Even a phone call yesterday (with my phone locked inside my pocket) didn’t show up on the watch but just a quick vibration and when I looked at the watch the watch face was still there while the phone was ringing. When I check the Watch app on my phone all those apps says “Mirror iPhone” as notification choice.

Ive noticed they don’t show up on the AOD only when I raise my wrist do they appear.

That is it. I was about to write that I think I figure it out. The “Wake on Wrist” option was disabled which I had enabled on my Apple Watch 4 since there was no Always On screen. In my mind that was not necessary on the new watch since the screen is always on.

Is that the Setting under General->Wake Screen ?

I had to sign in to say thank you. This has been driving me crazy for a week. I went to the Apple Store and of course, the expert there told me to just reset my watch. I told him he was wrong that wasn't the issue but he didn't want to hear that.
