Notifications on Apple Watch and also pop up on Iphone 6+??? Please help

Hello -

Does anyone know if there is a way to have the apple watch alert me to a notification AND have the notification pop up (screen lights up with notification) on my iphone like normal? I have the "mirror iphone" setting currently on in the my apple watch app.

Far as I know, if your iPhone is asleep and the watch catches it, the iPhone will not be disturbed. Similarly, if your phone is awake, your watch won't catch it. Oddly, my mac is happy to chirp along even when my watch has told me about the text.

Is this configurable? My wife noticed this as well and she really wants her phone to alert in addition the watch.

I was hoping there was some setting that would allow both. I guess the thinking might be that why would one want it on both, but I like seeing it pop up on my iphone screen when it is sitting on my desk.
