I don't think this exists within the notification settings on the Watch, but I could be wrong. If it doesn't exist I think it is a real opportunity for Apple to improve the user experience with the Watch.

I have a couple group chats going. Sometimes there are only 1 or 2 messages in a chat in a given day and sometimes there are dozens, if not more. When I'm not actively using my iPhone or MBP I may be getting "tapped" on my wrist non stop for periods of time with all the message notifications. Let me paint the picture.

Person A sends a message - Notified
Person B reacts / likes A's message - Notified
Person C reacts to A's message - Notified
Person D replies - Notified
Person A replies - Notified
Person E reacts to A's 1st message and A's 2nd message - Notified twice

This might happen within 30 seconds or even a minute or 2. I do not need 6 notifications in 30 seconds or even 6 within 2 minutes.

Is there a setting somewhere that allows me to say "Only notify me once every minute person per conversation" or something else that would help eliminate the constant taps on my wrist? I do want to be notified, but not multiple times within a short period.

Thanks, but that doesn't help. You may have missed the use case. 95% - 98% of the time I want to be notified and muting the conversation wouldn't achieve that.

Messages come in at random times throughout the day and that is fine. It's when one or more people get on a texting spree and I'm inundated with messages. I don't need 6+ notifications in a 30 second time period.

This should be pretty easy for Apple to implement, especially if it was a 1 on 1 message. - Only notify user 1 time every X seconds for unique senders / conversations.

EDIT -

The other issue I have with the feature is that now you're having to "train" people how to format / send messages so notifications only come when you want them to when this isn't a user issue, it's a tech issue. The tech can tell how many notifications I'm getting and should be able to "mute" subsequent notifications when they're coming one after the other.

I can hear Steve Jobs telling me "You're holding it wrong." LOL
