NOW ATT iphone 3g no DATA

I am thinking about getting an iphone 3g. is it possible to get it with no data plan? I am not locked in a contract. I am just popping a friends iphone with my sim card.

They won't allow it.
You might get away with it for weeks or even months but when they do scans and notice an iPhone with no data plan they automatically add one.

can you just turn off edge and 3g after jailbreak?
also, can you just swap sim again and tell them that your no longer using an iphone and once they take off the plan put the sim back into the iphone?

Yes, you can turn off carrier data any time you want even without JB by installing a fake APN.
But they can still find out what phone you're using to acess their network the minute you put your simcard in the iphone.
You can switch your sim to a nonsmartphone and call them to have it removed again but you might have to do this back and forth quite often.

Yes, with prepaid AT&T sims you wont have to worry about that.
