I have a feeling the next OS the 2009 will get the axe, while 2010 2012 will live on.

Wonder if Apple will prevent / change so that a plist file edit will not allow to to install the OS.

Nah...the 2009 won't die until the 5,1 is done, especially since the 4,1 can be firmware upgraded. Let's remember, a Mac Pro is a tool which allows a professional user to craft their art, whatever that might be. I think less time needs to be spent worrying about an unannounced operating system and more time spent perfecting your use of the tools available to you. Even if upgrades do some day get dropped, 6-7 years on a computer should have paid for itself a few times over.
