Cause our dollar is nice and strong against the green-back.

I just got my 24gb of ram bought from Transintl for ~$930 AUD on current conversion rates. The cheapest place I can find locally is Macfixit.com.au and its over $1300.

Of course, if the aussie dollar gets bad and the conversion is over $1000 then you'll have to pay import and GST whoch is around +$300. Which means you're better off buying locally since you have no forms to fill ;)

Oh and shipping from Transintl is like $40 USD... A bit of a ripoff but meh.
