iOS NSFetchedResultsController returning different sections iOS 9 vs 10

Hoping to get help here. Thanks in advance for the help.

In 9 my FRC is returning only one section from the sectionNameKeyPath(which is incorrect) while in 10 I get the correct number of sections.

Is anyone aware of any difference in how an FRC handles the sectionNamekeyPath between 9 and 10? I haven't successfully found anything in the documentation.
