Every morning when I turn on my Mac nsurlsessiond sucks all the bandwidth so I have to wait 10mins before I can do anything. Using commandline tools I eventually figured out that it's the WhatsApp app syncing the previous day's media even though it's not running. It does this within the same process as iCloud.
What surprises me is that nsurlsessiond isn't broken down in the activity monitor display. What amazes me is that I haven't found a tool to help me diagnose what in nsurlsessiond is sucking bandwidth?
There are plenty of threads on this using commandline tools to do this manually, but I switched away from linux to avoid that kind of timewasting.
